I am glad to know that the First Virtual National Philatelic Exhibition ‘PHILAVIRTU-2020’ with International Participation is being organized by the International Collector’s Society of Rare Items, Pune (ICSRI) from 10 to 23 October, 2020. | am especially happy to note that the Exhibition will feature a first-ever competitive Virtual Stamp Show happening in India with global reach and unlimited visitors.
Philately performs the dual function of enhancing one’s knowledge and bringing a sense of ease and relaxation in the little world which is depicted inside postage stamps. Stamps portray a plethora of subjects ranging from history, geography, science and technology to art and architecture, music, dance forms, nature and current events etc. Today when young people are enamored by social media, philately provides an excellent avenue to channelize their energies towards more constructive pursuits.
Further, during the current Covid health crisis, the holding of a Virtual Philatelic Exhibition will ensure that stamp lover’s will not be deprived of their passion. They will have an opportunity to see the excellent collections being showcased at ‘PHILAVIRTU-2020’ from the safety and convenience of their homes, from any corner of the globe at any time. | feel that the virtual arena holds exciting possibilities for the future of philately.
The proposed symposia and online webinars will similarly be of great value and will allow philatelists from around the World to participate in them.
As schools are currently closed in many countries, children can be encouraged to visit the virtual exhibition and learn about the world of stamps and take up philately as a hobby.
The International Collector’s Society of Rare Items, Pune (ICSRI) has done a commendable job in organising this virtual exhibition. I am sure that ICSRI will continue to promote the sustainable development of philately through this initiative and more such events in the coming years for ushering a bright future for Philately.
I wish the event a great success.
